When did you first try stand up and can you tell us a little about that experience?

I first tried it in Chicago at an open mic at a coffee shop. I had taken classes in improv at Second City, so I was reasonably comfortable on stage but I didn't really have jokes. I just told a bunch of anecdotes about what as going on in my life at the time, bit I did ok, and knew I wanted to do it again. When I got off stage, several of the open mic'ers told me I had good stage presence, which I was happy to hear, and then later I learned that meant I didn't have any jokes. I am still learning to write jokes to this day.
